ZU–TH 5/98 PM–98/1 GDR–S–011 hep-ph/9806301 LOWER BOUNDS ON CHARGED HIGGS BOSONS FROM LEP AND THE TEVATRON
نویسنده
چکیده
We point out that charged Higgs bosons can decay into final states different from τντ and cs̄, even when they are light enough to be produced at LEP II or at the Tevatron through top quark decays. These additional decay modes are overlooked in ongoing searches even though they alter the existing lower bounds on the mass of the charged Higgs bosons that are present in supersymmetric and two Higgs doublets models. The discovery of a charged Higgs boson would be an unambiguous signal of an extended Higgs sector and possibly of supersymmetry. In supersymmetric models, at least two Higgs doublets are needed to give mass to all fermions: one is coupled only to down-type quarks and leptons; the other, only to up-type quarks. A Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) is said of Type II if the doublets are coupled as in supersymmetric models with minimal particle content. It is said of Type I if one Higgs doublet does not couple to fermions at all and the other couples as the Standard Model (SM) doublet. After electroweak symmetry breaking, five physical states remain: two CP-even Higgs bosons h and H (with mh < mH), a CP-odd Higgs boson A, and two charged states H . The charged-Higgses–fermions interactions, can then be comprehensively expressed as: L = g √ 2 {( mdi MW ) X uLjVji dRi + ( mui MW ) Y uRiVij dLj + ( mli MW )

متن کاملHiggsBounds 2.0.0: Confronting neutral and charged Higgs sector predictions with exclusion bounds from LEP and the Tevatron
HiggsBounds 2.0.0 is a computer code which tests both neutral and charged Higgs sectors of arbitrary models against the current exclusion bounds from the Higgs searches at LEP and the Tevatron. As input, it requires a selection of model predictions, such as Higgs masses, branching ratios, effective couplings and total decay widths. HiggsBounds 2.0.0 then uses the expected and observed topologic...
متن کاملLight Charged Higgs Bosons in Supersymmetric Models
We point out that present experimental limits from searches for neutral Higgs bosons at LEP already imply stringent lower bounds on the mass of the charged Higgs boson in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM); these bounds are especially severe for low values of tanβ (tanβ ≤ 3), where the Ht̄b coupling is large. However, these indirect constraints are much weaker in simple extensions ...
متن کاملImproving the discovery potential of charged
By exploiting the full process pp̄ → tb̄H, in place of the standard Monte Carlo procedure of factorising production and decay, pp̄ → tt̄ followed by t̄ → b̄H, we show how to improve the discovery reach of the Tevatron (Run 2) in charged Higgs boson searches, in the large tan β region. This is achieved in conjunction with dedicated cuts on a ‘transverse mass’ distribution sensitive to the Higgs boson ...
متن کاملHiggs Physics: from LEP to a Future Linear Collider
New preliminary combined results from the LEP experiments on searches for the Higgs boson beyond the Standard Model are presented. The new determination of the top quark mass at the Tevatron in 2004 influences the interpretations of the LEP results in both, the Standard Model, and the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. Higgs boson physics will also be a major research area ...
